Lately...

I have been trying to keep myself busy over the past several months with various projects for our little guy who will hopefully be making his appearance any day now.  I've been having far too much fun.  I started with blankets.  A craft blog I follow, Little Birdie Secrets, shared a tutorial on "magic binding blanket tutorial" and I have absolutely loved it!  I have made several for our little guy and other friends that are expecting or have just had babies.  Here are several...

This was the first I made.  The minky was a bit difficult but I love the feel and think it turned out pretty well for my first time.  I learned the hard way however that you don't iron minky.

These two are probably my favorites.  I love Riley Blake Prints!!!  The material is pricey but the I love the quality and the western prints.

This one I made for a friend's little girl.  I loved the combination!!!

I made another out of these for a very special little lady and just loved this combination too.  What can I say I can't get enough of Riley Blake!!!

I had minky left over from the first blanket and the brown from another blanket that still isn't finished.  Turns out that doing a regular binding with mitered corners is way more difficult that doing mitered corners with the self binding blanket.

Burp rags were one of my first projects.  The fabrics are a little random, just scraps I had in my stash.

Heat and Bond is my fabric crafting friend.  I saw something similar at a craft fair yesterday and thought I can do that. So I bought a pack of onsies and went to work.

This one obviously is not for my child.  I love paisley print and wanted to try it with the cowboy boots thinking it would add to the western look I was going for.  Well it turned out looking really girly so I added the skirt and embellishments on the sleeve.  Good thing there are a few little girls coming in the next little while.  Is it just me or are there lots of little boys coming lately?

This one turned out more like what I was going for.  There are fake pockets on the back but I didn't get a picture of those.

This is also one of my favorites!  I hunted high and low trying to find the perfect fabric but when you aren't sure what you are looking for it's kinda hard to narrow it down.  Needless to say we have a thing for tractors in our house...no particular reason.  But as anyone who knows us knows that green tractors are bad juju.  There is lots of green tractor fabric out there and it kept catching my attention the tractors that is.  But I knew it wouldn't fly so when I found this at my favorite fabric store, aptly named Fabric Farm I knew the hunt was over.  I showed a picture to Matt; he was sold!
The canopy pattern I used had an option to use rick rack or just a simple edge.  I didn't like either of those options.  So I opted for a picot edge.  It was fun to experiment with the continuous picot or doing individual picots.  Sorry the picture doesn't show the edge very well.

As promised a better picture of the quilt that Matt's mom made!  Isn't it so cute?  I love the little monkey hanging over the side.
