Moments not to be forgotten...

This morning Matt was getting Tylor dressed for church and asked him where his tie was to which Tylor replied, "Ty right here dad." And pointed to himself!

In the middle of the Sacrament today he started announcing "There's Jesus" over and over again.

I'm not sure when I started this but found this little gem today.

Sunday

Let's be honest I don't know how to start most of my blog posts but today is a day to be remembered . . . One I will laugh about for years I'm sure. . .

Earlier this week we learned we are expecting a baby girl in July....a game changer indeed but that is a post for another day. This morning as I got ready I was thinking about how different things would be with a girl...you know the tantrums over shoes, the tears over hair....things most girls go through. I dressed Tylor and Talmage and then found shoes. After calling twice for Tylor to come put his shoes on Matt said he thought he may have gone outside....last week he escaped the house before church and jumped in a puddle... I panicked a bit. It rained most of the day yesterday and Tylor has spent time over the last several days playing in the sandbox. Luckily he didn't get too far. (I will concede that I do probably deserve a day where we are late for church because he's gotten himself really dirty. My mom has a picture somewhere of a little girl in a white sundress in the middle of a sandbox to prove it.) While I put shoes and socks on the boys Matt armed the boys with Nerf guns. I can't complain it kept them quiet and cooperative. I trailed them to the bathroom to comb there hair, going through the mental checklist of what needed to be done to get out the door. Tylor ran off as I began combing Talmage's hair. I was trying to listen for the back door when I heard "shoot mommy" "no don't shoot mommy" and then Tylor appeared outside the bathroom with a Nerf gun. I reminded him " don't shoot mommy" but alas my warning was in vain. I was shot point bank in the eye! I was so in shock at his accuracy that all I could do was shout his name (Matt told me the neighbors probably heard me.....Ooops!) Thank heavens for Daddy's he disarmed my little monkey and we were soon on our way out the door and on our way to church.

The battle was quite normal through Sacrament the normal wiggles and trying to escape our isle....realistically I think my boys do pretty good.

Sunday school was a bit of a challenge Talmage was  quite restless. But the real kicker was Relief Society. As I'm wrestling Talmage and trying to listen and pay attention, I suddenly hear the sound of raspberries being blown. I was trying not to giggle when I realized those raspberries were being blown on my arm. And then I realized everyone sitting in the two rows behind me were giggling as well! It made it more difficult to gain my composure.

I just had to laugh I am the Mother of two boys!

Bubbles on the battle front

Tylor has been obsessed with bubbles lately....and while at the moment I struggled to laugh, I know someday I will and will want to remember. On Monday he tried to wash the kitchen window with an SOS pad. Later he washed the counter and the window with a half bottle of dawn dish soap. He was so excited about the bubbles in the bath it was hard to help him see why that was a bad idea! Later he scrubbed the stove and exhaust fan cover with salt.

Today he emptied a nearly full container of q-tips into the bathroom sink. Covered them with soap and managed to lift the q-tip container over half full of water back on top of the mirror.....ok I'm laughing a bit now! His curiosity and determination amazes me! I kinda miss my smart phone though so I could have snapped pictures of the aftermath before the cleanup ensued.

Snippet and snails and puppy dog tails.....

I need to record these little memories somewhere. Yesterday Tylor and I were coloring and he tole me to draw a circle. So I drew a circle on the paper on his high hair tray. "no mom draw a circle" I looked up to see he was holding another piece of paper on his head. So I drew a circle on the paper on his head. My mother in law asked if he wanted me to draw his face. To which he responded by placing the paper over his face and telling me to draw. Where he comes up with these things I will never know.

A few moments later I was drawing and naming other shapes. As I drew a rectangle he said "door" and then "ding dong! Hello!" never a dull moment.

For the past at least 3 days he's been a little obsessed with his guitar shirt. He wore it Sunday and then yesterday dug it out of the dirty clothes and took it to grandma to put in him. Today he dug through the laundry basket and the crates we keep the boys clothes on looking for it.

The funniest thing about this shirt though has got to be the sound effects he makes with it. After changing his diaper on Sunday I asked him what was on his shirt he told me a guitar and then I asked what sound it made. He played a little air guitar as he made some really good electric guitar noises. I asked him again later when everyone was together for dinner thinking what he had one earlier was a fluke but no he told us all it was a guitar and again played a little air guitar and made electric guitar noises. I don't know if Matt had taught him that or not but it cracked me up!

Talmage has been fearless the last little while. Today he climbed on the dinner table and as I went to get him off I was still a couple steps away and he dove off the table at me! He did the same thing off the stairs all the while with a big grin on his face!

Poor little guy though has been cutting teeth the past couple days. It so sad! I dislike teething....thanks heavens I know the end result will be worth it!

He's so curious. Today he sat playing with a pen the kind you can click in and out. He would carefully push the end with his little pointer finger. I flipped it over and clicked quickly several times he got excited but when I handed it back he looked it over and turned it right side up and proceeded to click it again with his little finger. I love watching him master new skills. I love the way he studies everything!

He's been cruising pretty good for a while and I just have to say is there really any thing cuter than chubby little legs and their awkward unsure steps! I love it! He's been trying to run and is getting pretty good this afternoon he talked over to Tylor who was watching "bobots" on Matt's IPad. He picked up the IPad and made off like a bandit. Oh my word and the teasing begins! He's one!

Allies...

So this post has been on mind mind for a while but it is random and I haven't know whether or not I really should write it so here goes nothing...

About a month ago my dear neighbor passed away. And I wanted to share a sweet little story about him. After Tylor was born and the first time I took him to church. I was nervous...first time moms worry about everything....would I get anything out of church? Would I even be able to pay attention at all? Was it too soon? .....there is always a list of questions that goes through your mind.

We had done pretty well through Sacrament but in Sunday school Tylor had started to fuss. I'll admit it as a young mother I may have panicked a bit. We were still learning each others rhythms. So I left and started to walk the hall trying to calm him but stayed near the door so I could try and catch some of the lesson. Jack was sitting in the hall near the door....he may have have a sleeping grand baby on his
lap (as he was often seen at church) he told me as I came out that Tylor had barely made a noise and that I should go back in.

This might sound crazy but Jack became my ally that day. I know to some that may sound silly but let's be honest parenting is hard and there is no one right way to do but everyone of us needs an ally now and again. Someone in our corner telling us that that battle or choice we just made was a good one and to keep fighting to keep going to keep moving.

There's no one way to find them. Their faces are all different and they sometimes show up in unexpected places. Like the lady in the fabric store I stopped to ask about buttons for the blessing tux for Talmage who told me that my sacrifice would be cherished for generations even though at the time it was hard and I wondered what I was doing with two littles ones in tow. And many even discouraged me taking on a large task with my littles ones.

Sometimes there so familiar that they could be easily missed like on tough days when my father in law remarks what a good boy my son is. As a parent there is so much we worry about with our children's behavior that we miss the big picture from time to time and we need to be reminded to look past the moment.

Other times we may take them for granted like a sister in law or friend who we talk to daily or almost daily to gets us through the battles of the day.

We are all so different and our battles just as unique. But its impossible to always be everyone's ally (unless you are old and that's just plain wisdom! A wisdom I hope to attain someday.) May we reach out with a little more kindness and understanding because everyone is fighting some kind of battle and Heaven knows we need allies!
