51 days and counting till the expected arrival of our little dude. And it's been quite an adventure. I just wanted to share a few of the highlights...
Since we found out that we were having a boy I've felt a little funny about not having a name for him but hesitate in picking a name without seeing him. So I've started calling him Critter. I get lots of funny looks but perhaps I should explain. One of my favorite children's book characters is Critter a series of books by Mercer Mayer. The series chronicles all sorts of little moments in life with titles such as "Just ME and My Little Brother" and "Just Big Enough" as well as many others.
Other adventures have included questions from nieces and nephews about the baby. A while back we were riding with Matt's nephew, Buck and Matt had just told him that there was a baby in my tummy. After a couple of thoughtful seconds he looked at me and asked, as serious as could be, "Did you eat it?" After the laughter subsided he asked again, "Did you eat it?" He was convinced that I had eaten it.
I spent the weekend watching my nieces and nephews after rough housing probably a little more than I should have I told my nephews that they had to be careful with me because I had a baby in my tummy. Needless to say it sparked a few questions, some that were completely expected and others not expected at all.
"What if the baby climbed up your bones and tackled your heart?"
(After the initial shock had worn off and I realized he was serious) I answered that he couldn't to which my nephew naturally responded, "Why not?"
He's six. And not wanting to explain the science behind it. I simply answered, "He's in his house?"
"There's a house in you?"
"Yupp! A special house for the baby."
(He shot me a puzzled look and thought for a moment.) "What happens when he comes out? Where does he live?"
"In my house with me."
"That's weird!"
"Why's that weird?" I asked. "That's what happened when you were born." That seemed to satisfy him at least for a while.
Later he wandered into the kitchen and asked, "How does the baby survive in your tummy?"
Simple I thought! " There's a special cord that gives him everything he needs."
"How'd the steel get in there?"
"How did the what get in there?!"
And so he repeated, "How did the steel get in there?" I thought and thought trying to figure out what he was talking about when he continued, "How does it not shock you?"
Finally, I was up to speed. "It's not an electrical cord." That baffled him. Apparently that was the only cord he was aware of. I tried to explain that there are other kinds of cords not just electrical cords.
"How does it eat?"
"It gets the food I eat threw the cord." I nearly started praying the questions would stop when he bounded off down the stairs. Hopefully I didn't scar the child or create problems for his parents. Sorry Del! Best of luck! He's a curious little one.
I'm sure there are others and will be others but just a couple that I thought I would share.

Quick thinking there! You'll make a great mommy :)We can't wait!
